Creating Beauty in Chaos: Floral Touches for the Everyday Mess

When you become a parent, you suddenly get it- why the homes of those with young kids feel like obstacle courses of toys, socks, and snack crumbs. Life with children is messy. Toddlers, I swear, are just like cats, and convinced that the natural resting place for everything is the floor.

Some parents embrace it fully, letting the chaos run its course. If that’s you, I admire you. But if you’re like me? Order and organization don’t come easily when every square foot is claimed by little humans. One of my biggest lessons in motherhood has been learning to let go.

I’m still learning, especially when it comes to clutter.

One of the best ways I’ve learned to embrace a house of chaos, is to add the beauty UP TOP! If the floor belongs to the kids, the higher spaces belong to me.

Before motherhood, when I taught preschoolers, I learned the rule that visuals should be at their eye level. But as a mom, I flipped it: beauty belongs at my eye level.

So while the ground is a sea of dolls, trucks, and yesterday’s snack wrappers, I keep my gaze lifted. The shelves, countertops, and piano top are mine to make beautiful. A vase of flowers in the hallway library, fresh blooms on the kitchen counter, even a little pop of color on the bathroom shelf. These are my reminders that the beauty hasn’t been buried under the mess.

And here’s the best part: it doesn’t have to be flowers. It could be a favorite photo, a piece of your child’s artwork, or a small keepsake that sparks joy in your heart. The key is placing beauty where you’ll see it most often.

So when the floor feels like a minefield of toys and laundry? Keep your head up. Because sometimes the simplest way to reclaim peace in a messy season is to look for beauty that’s right at your eye level.
